Dermal Fillers
Cumulative exposure to the sun, genetics as well as the natural aging process can all cause the skin to wrinkle and sag and the healthy fat in the face to thin. Children and young adults have smooth, round faces due to fatty tissue that is evenly distributed throughout the contours of the face. As you age the skin sags and fits more loosely, and these folds become prominent and contribute to the hallmark signs associated with an aging face.
Early on in this process Dr. DeFatta can recommend less invasive procedures and techniques to enhance your appearance and correct these conditions. Dermal fillers provide one group of options that can be performed any time in order to slow down the signs of aging, and in many cases, restore a more youthful appearance. Facial fat transfer is another more natural option that involves using small amounts of your own fat taken from the abdomen or inner thighs and placing it in the cheeks, lips and other locations around the face to restore volume.
What are Dermal Fillers?
There are a variety of dermal fillers available that target various facial flaws and can help with cosmetic concerns. Fat transfers are the most natural as they utilize small amounts of your own fat to add fullness into locations where volume has been lost. Whereas commercially available fillers are made of a combination of substances that occur naturally in the body to restore facial volume.
What Are the Benefits of Dermal Fillers and Their Target Areas?
Fillers can show immediate and long-lasting results. While commercially available fillers are not permanent, they have the advantage of avoiding surgery and providing a tool to slow the aging process in a subtle and natural appearing way. Fat transfers can last much longer, retaining 75 percent of the initial volume at five years.
Dermal fillers can be used to:
- Plump and add structure to the lips
- Reduce wrinkles and fine lines
- Create a more youthful glow by enhancing shallow contours around the face
- Add volume to plump the cheeks
- Fill hollows and shadows under the eyes
- Soften smile lines around the mouth
- Treat depressed facial scars
- Straighten the bridge of the nose
Why Choose a Board-Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon for Your Dermal Filler Treatment?
With so many different types of aesthetic providers in practice today, it is important to make an informed decision when considering an elective procedure. Physicians and surgeons who are cosmetic experts specifically in the areas of the face and neck are called facial plastic surgeons. This highly sought after specialty requires 13 years of higher education to achieve the ultimate expertise in the complex anatomy, function and aesthetic of the face and neck. These physicians are trained in and routinely perform both non-invasive and surgical procedures for facial rejuvenation. They are board certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS). For more than 30 years, the ABFPRS has been actively dedicated to improving the quality of facial plastic procedures available to the public by measuring the qualifications of candidate surgeons against certain rigorous standards.
Dr. Robert J. DeFatta is dual board certified, both by the ABFPRS and the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. His extensive training, credentials and experience reflect his commitment to meeting the highest standards of clinical care for his patients. He has dedicated his entire career to the treatment of disorders and cosmetic concerns of the face, head and neck, and his scope of practice includes injectable treatments of a variety of cosmetic concerns from the neck up.
