In-Office Sleep Studies
A sleep study (polysomnogram) is performed to determine whether your symptoms are due to a sleep disorder. The most common of these include sleep apnea, insomnia and restless leg syndrome (RLS). Sleep studies can be performed in a sleep laboratory or in your home. In-office sleep studies are more thorough and are monitored by a sleep technician to ensure quality data is obtained for an accurate diagnosis. As you sleep, electrodes placed on your head and body monitor your brain waves, breathing and movement. Our goals are not only to ensure that we obtain the data we need to diagnose your sleep problem, but also that your visit to our lab is easy and comfortable.
Cost and Health Insurance
Sleep studies at outpatient facilities are typically less costly than those done within a hospital setting. In particular, our facility is dedicated to helping you save on your healthcare bills within this increasingly expensive medical market. Insurance, including Medicare, may cover the majority of your sleep study expense. Ultimate costs will likely depend on your insurance type as well as specifics related to your annual deductible and other factors outlined in your policy. Our staff will help you navigate insurance coverage details and prior authorize the study with your insurance for you. Concierge level service for a competitive cost.
How to Prepare
Please keep the following things in mind during the day of your test:
- Avoid caffeine (coffee, tea, soft drinks, chocolate) after lunchtime
- Skip your evening cocktail or glass of wine – alcohol can interfere with sleep
- Wash styling products out of your hair – they can interfere with the electrodes placed on your head
- Do not nap during the day, if possible
- If you take medication regularly, make sure your doctor knows what you take. You may need to stop some of these temporarily.

Timing
Our typical check-in time for a polysomnogram is between 8 and 10 p.m; the usual departure time after you wake up is between 6 and 8 a.m. Our goal is for you to sleep for at least six hours so that the data collected about your sleep is meaningful. If you work nights, our facility is pleased to be able to accommodate your study during a weekend day.
